Bangladesh men’s archery recurve team made it to the last four of the 19th Asian Games but conceded a 6-0 defeat against Indonesia in the third-place deciding match in Hangzhou, China Friday.
Featuring Ruman Shana, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Sagor Islam, the recurve team began the game on a positive note as they defeated Thailand in the tie-breaker of the quarter-finals.
But like the Asiad cricket team who lost to India in the men’s semi-final, the archers also surrendered to opponents of the same country in the last four but it was by a narrow 5-3 margin.
Archers blamed luck for the defeat in the bronze-medal tie while German head coach Martin Frederick was also not satisfied with the performance.
In karate, Humaira Akhter Antara, who won gold in the last South Asian Games, reached the quarter-finals of the women’s 61kg kumite event but could not progress further after a 9-1 loss against Kyrgyzstan opponent.
Al Amin Islam made it to the Round of 16 of the men’s 60kg kumite but lost to his Indonesia counterpart by 6-0.
Bangladesh hockey team saw downfall from their previous Asiad campaign as they finished eighth after losing to Oman narrowly by 4-3 in the seventh-place deciding match.
