Bangladeshi racer Avik Anwar raised his stature even higher as he added yet another illustrious win, race 2 of round 4 in the Volkwagen Polo Cup in India, in his prosperous career.
The win was special for Avik, who has achieved several international successes in last few years, as he made two podium finishes in last two occasions in the tournament and finally finished on first.
The win became even more fascinating as he beat his own mentor Sourav Bandopaddhay and he felt winning India feels like winning 10 times elsewhere.
“Sourav has been my mentor since 2017 and beating him shows how good he has taught me and Pratik [Sonawane, who became third] is a great racer and friend,” “Avik is quoted by saying in the You Tube video clip of the race.
“I come from a country where there are no racing tracks, so we only get to practice on simulators. I am really happy. This is the most competitive grid that I have raced on. Winning in India is like winning elsewhere 10 times.”
He dedicated the win to his father.
“I would like to dedicate this win to my father, who I am pretty sure will be happy that I won a race in India,” the racer said.
Volkswagen Polo Cup, which is being staged at Madras Racing Track at Chennai, is a part of India’s national touring car championship.
Avik is currently on fourth in overall ranking before the final race.
