The inauguration ceremony of the Begum Laila Alam 10th International Rating Women’s Chess Tournament, sponsored by former national women’s chess player Laila Alam and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation, was held Sunday at the BCF hall-room at the second floor of the National Sports Council in Dhaka.
Honorable Secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Muhammad Abdullah, inaugurated the event as chief guest.
Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, general secretary of BCF and president, Fide Asian Zone 3.2, Begum Laila Alam, sponsor of the event, and Dr. Nasrin Begum, vice president, Tetra Hedron Inc, USA were also present as special guests.
KM Shahidullah, vice president of BCF presided the ceremony.
Wazir Alam and Dr. Waqi Alam gave speeches in the ceremony.

Moniruzzaman Plash, joint secretary of BCF, Masudur Rahman Mallick Dipu, joint secretary of BCF, Mohammad Haroon Rashid, international arbiter and chief arbiter of the event and national instructor Mahmuda Haque Chowdhury, managing director of Elegant International Academy were also present in the ceremony.
A total of 45 players, including national champion, Women’s International Master Rani Hamid, national runners up, Women’s Fide Master Nazrana Khan Eva, Women’s Candidate Master Noshin Anjum and WFM Zakia Sultana will participate in the event.
Twenty players won their 1st round game, and earned full points.
The event is being held in accordance with the seven-round Swiss League system.
