Zia won seven games, drew two and lost only one. He beat Tran Tuan Minh of Vietnam, Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan, Rozum Iavn of Russia and Sergei Tiviakov of the Netherlands. His only defeat came at the hand of the eighth round. Zia not only received 4lakh Indian rupees as prize money but also increased his rating points by 31 after this event. A total of 265 players from 24 countries, including 27 GMs, one woman GM, 24 International Masters and five women’s IMs participated in the event. Zia's son, Tahsin Tajwar Zia also took part in Category C of the tournament but finished 210th with 3.5 points.
