Bangladesh beat Iran to secure 5th place 

Bangladesh were placed in the 6-team Challengers group where they beat Japan (10-3) and Oman (7-6) but lost to Malaysia (10-5), Pakistan (15-6) and India (15-1)

Bangladesh secured fifth spot at the Men’s Hockey5s Asia Cup after edging past Iran 7-6 in the thrilling fifth/sixth-place deciding match in Salalah, Oman Saturday.

Sarowar Sawon scored three goals (10, 16, 27) while Saiful Alam (5), Mohammad Uddin (13), Deen Mohammad Emon (21) and Hossain Mohammad (23) added one each for the victors.

Hamedi Aref (11, 18) and Taherirad Navid (15, 29) netted twice apiece for Iran while Mirzakhani Amirmahdi (8) and Shahrokhi Mahdi (25) found the net on one occasion each.

A total of 11 countries from the continent split into two groups – Elite and Challengers – participated in the men’s event.

Bangladesh were placed in the six-team Challengers group where they beat Japan (10-3) and Oman (7-6) but lost to Malaysia (10-5), Pakistan (15-6) and India (15-1).

The men in red and green missed the opportunity to qualify for third/fourth place deciding game after losing to Oman 5-3 and eventually had to conclude the campaign among Asia’s top five.
