Bangladesh girls run riot, thump Oman 9-2 at Hockey 5s Asia Cup

Bangladesh have earned 9 points in the 6-team group currently led by Hong Kong against whom they will conclude their group campaign Sunday

Hosts Oman were no match for Bangladesh women’s team when the two sides faced each other in the Challengers group match of the Hockey five-a-side Asia Cup in Salalah Saturday.

The visitors won the game 9-2.

It was Bangladesh’s third consecutive win in the competition after crushing Iran 9-3 in the previous match held earlier on the same day.

Airin Riya was adjudged player of the match on both occasions as the forward scored four against Iran and five against the home side.

Orpita Pal, who scored three against Iran, Sanjida Moni, Mosammat Akter and Fardia Ratry added one each.

Bangladesh earlier defeated Chinese Taipei 10-5 after beginning their campaign with a defeat against Indonesia.

The girls in red and green have earned nine points in the six-team group currently led by Hong Kong against whom they will conclude their group campaign Sunday.

Ten countries – split into two groups according to their rankings – are competing in the tournament.

The Elite Pool comprising the top teams of Asia features India, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand.
