Bangladesh crush Chinese Taipei 10-5 in Women’s Hockey5s Asia Cup

Bangladesh women’s hockey team handed Chinese Taipei a crushing 10-5 defeat in their second match at the Women’s Hockey five-a-side Asia Cup in Salalah, Oman Friday.

Orpita Pal netted six field goals while Airin Riya scored four for the victors as Bangladesh led the first half 5-3 before adding five more after the break.

Earlier Friday, the women in red and green made a return to the international arena after nearly four years with a 7-4 defeat against Indonesia where Orpita scored three and Riya added the other.

Ten countries – split into two groups – are competing in the qualifying round of the World Cup which will continue till Monday.

Bangladesh were placed in Challengers Pool with Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Iran and hosts Oman while India, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand make up the Elite Pool.

Bangladesh will play their remaining matches against Iran and Oman Saturday and face Hong Kong in the last group game Sunday.

Three teams from the qualifying round will advance to the World Cup.
