Siddikur finishes second

Update : 17 May 2014, 09:51 PM

Bangladesh golfer Siddikur Rahman finished the ICTSI Philippine Open on joint-second after carding a bogey-free three-under-par 69 in the third, fourth and final round while Marcus Both of Australia secured an emphatic victory to revive his career after thinking of quitting the game last year.

The towering Aussie, who lost his Asian Tour card last year for the first time since 2003, posted a two-under-par 70 for a winning total of six-under-par 282 at the US$300,000 Asian Tour event.

Siddikur, the first Bangladeshi to play and win on the Asian Tour, birdied holes two, three and seven but struggled to keep pace as he returned with 11 straight pars to earn a prize-money of US$17,838.

“I’m very happy with my round because it was bogey-free. I’m not happy with my putting but I still managed to escape from making errors. I was confident I could win this event but I didn’t putt too well on the second and third day. This is all part of golf and we learn from it,” said Siddikur, a two-time Asian Tour winner.

“I think I’m hitting it very well. If I can get my putter hot then I will get another good result. I’ll be going for the U.S. Open Qualifying. I have good memory when I played on the same golf course in 2012. I’m really looking forward to it because it is my dream to play in the US Open,” added the 29-year-old.

Meanwhile, the other Bangladeshi Zamal Hossain finished the tournament on 62nd spot after posting another six-over-par 78 on the ultimate day.
