Agar braces for Bangladesh Tests

Update : 23 Aug 2017, 12:42 AM
Australia left-arm spinner Ashton Agar believes he had plenty of preparation for the Bangladesh series and is ready to perform well and cement his spot if the opportunity arises. “I've done a lot of preparation, the past India series was good preparation, I bowled a lot over there on pretty similar wickets. So I've got a good idea on how I'd like to bowl if my opportunity comes out here. So I think I've prepared really well,” Agar told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.Agar played just two Test matches for Australia after making his debut in 2013. The left-hander came back to the Test squad after four years. It’s a good chance for the Victorian to show his effectiveness to the squad. “It's just four years of experience, four years of extra bowling, a lot of balls bowled in that time and naturally you just get better. The more you bowl, the better you get at bowling. And just learning the game of cricket over the last four years as well, playing a lot more for Western Australia. It's just a lot of time to learn about myself and how I play my best cricket,” he said.“Obviously it depends on what the wicket looks like but I'm ready to go if I get the nod. I've been preparing really well and I've done everything I can now. I feel like everything is in really good order. It’s really pleasing to be around the Test group. It's what you want to do and it's a great bunch of guys to be around. It’s good fun. “I've worked on all parts of my game equally. That’s why I enjoy playing the game, being involved all the time: bat, ball, in the field. I put a lot of pride into my batting and I hope to make some runs if I get the chance,” he added.Earlier, Australia coach Darren Lehmann said they are planning to go with two specialist spinners in the first Test, starting Sunday in Mirpur. Nathan Lyon is the most experienced spinner of the side and very handy in such spin friendly condition. So Agar might just be the other option Australia are looking at for the first Test.

“I am hopeful to play if he (Lehmann) says he wants to play two spinners. Then I think I'm well placed. Mitchell Swepson is a really good bowler as well but I think my chances are good,” he said. “The wickets generally tend to play that way here. I think though with our fast bowlers Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins and Jackson Bird that’s over here, they can all bowl really well if we get the ball reversing. They're going to play a really big role too so it's going to be a really big team effort but certainly spin will play a major role I have no doubt,” he explained.
