Nasir to lead A side in the Caribbean

Update : 10 May 2014, 09:10 PM

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member squad for the Bangladesh A team’s upcoming month-long tour of the West Indies with Nasir Hossain leading the side and the recently-resigned national fielding coach Corey Richards acting as the head coach.

Corey submitted his resignation on May 6 which was accepted by the BCB and thus became the third foreign coach to resign within a few days after Shane Jurgensen and Richard McInnes. However, as the two-month notice period is yet to be over, the board has decided to appoint Corey as the head coach of the A side with Mizanur Rahman Babul as his assistant.

Naeem Islam was named vice-captain of the squad which was primarily filled with current and discarded national cricketers along with some young performers from the domestic circuit, most notably in-form left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. Young paceman Mustafizur Rahman was also included in the squad.

National cricketers Mominul Haque and Sohag Gazi also earned inclusions while openers Shamsur Rahman and Imrul Kayes will be looking to justify their places in the squad and attract the selectors’ attention as the Bangladesh A team’s tour precedes the Bangladesh cricket team’s two-match Test series in the West Indies.

The Bangladesh A side is scheduled to arrive in the Caribbean on May 22 for two four-day matches, three ODIs and two T20s against the West Indies High Performance Centre. The first four-dayer is scheduled for May 26 at Winward Cricket Club, Barbados.

The Bangladesh A side is scheduled to return on June 16.
