Towhid Hridoy struck his maiden Test century as wickets fell around him, taking Bangladesh to 205 for seven at lunch on the third day of the second Test against West Indies in Sylhet on Saturday.

Hridoy reached his hundred just before the break and was unbeaten on 100 off 171 balls, with 11 fours and a six. Bangladesh still trail West Indies' first-innings 356 by 151 runs.

With opener Shadman Islam unable to bat in the first innings because of an ankle injury, Bangladesh have only Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed left to support Hridoy.

Bangladesh resumed on 88 for three and added 117 runs in the morning session, losing four wickets, three of them to West Indies' spinners.

Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim took their fourth-wicket stand to 78 before left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican struck. Mushfiqur drove a flighted delivery from around the wicket straight to Brandon King at short cover, who dived to his left to take the catch. Mushfiqur made 34, and Bangladesh were 129 for four.

Hridoy reached his first Test fifty off 109 balls in the next over. Liton Das then fell the same way as Mushfiqur, driving Warrican to King at cover for eight, leaving Bangladesh on 141 for five.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 16 off 30 balls before Roston Chase had him caught by Justin Greaves, who dived to his right at first slip as Miraz attempted a paddle sweep. Bangladesh were 179 for six.

Warrican then removed Hasan Mahmud for one off 12 balls, caught behind on review after replays confirmed an outside edge, with Bangladesh on 184 for seven.

Hridoy and Taijul added an unbroken 21, with Hridoy scoring most of the runs. He celebrated his century by placing his helmet on the handle of his bat and raising it. Taijul was on one off 14 balls.

Warrican has taken three for 60.
