The Bangladesh Under-19 women's cricket team suffered a heartbreaking 41-run defeat against India in the Asia Cup final held in Kuala Lumpur Sunday, missing out on the chance to secure a historic double triumph.
Earlier, the Bangladesh U-19 men's team had clinched the Asia Cup title by defeating India, sparking hopes of a similar victory from the junior women’s side.
However, India’s dominant performance ensured they retained the crown at the junior level.
Electing to bat first, India posted a competitive total of 117/7 in their 20 overs.
Gongadi Trisha was the standout performer, smashing 52 off 47 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes.
Mithila Vinod (17) and captain Niki Prasad (12) provided valuable contributions.
Bangladesh’s Farjana Easmin impressed with the ball, claiming 4/31, while Nishita Akter Nishi provided valuable supported with figure of 2/23.
Chasing 118, the young Tigresses struggled against a disciplined Indian bowling attack and were bundled out for 76 in 18.3 overs.
Juairiya Ferdous top-scored with 22, while opener Fahmida Choya contributed 18.
Aayushi Shukla led the charge for India with 3/17, supported by Parunika Sisodia and Sonam Yadav, who took two wickets each.
Despite the defeat, the Bangladesh U-19 women’s team showcased grit and determination, leaving a mark with their spirited performances throughout the tournament.
