BCB boss ready to push back DPL

Update : 19 Jun 2013, 06:20 PM
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan admitted Wednesday at Mirpur stadium that the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) - the recruitment of players for which was supposed to take place on June 23 and which was scheduled to begin on July 3 - might have to be pushed back.   Nazmul said he was more concerned presently about the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Security Unit (Acsu) report regarding match and spot fixing, adding, “Right now, we are not in a situation to hold the Dhaka league. We wanted to start the league in September-October, as the rainy season has already started and the grounds are not available at the moment.”   The BCB president also informed that he only took the initiative to start the league at the scheduled time for the sake of the cricketers. “Honestly, I took the decision to start the league only at the request of the cricketers. Even Mushfiq had requested me to start the league as early as possible, so I did that.”    Asked about the cricketers who had pledged to boycott the league unless the existing payment system was retained, Nazmul said:  “I did not receive this type of message from any of the cricketers yet, that they are not going to play the league and there is no chance for the players to go against the board as the players are contracted to the BCB.”   On the matter of the players refusing the new system of grading classes and an auction system, Nazmul argued, “The amount which is being demanded is unacceptable, in fact the players have expected lot more money this season but from my point of view, cricketers are getting financially benefited from Franchisee league and also almost every cricketer is now under the BCB’s salary scheme.”   Nazmul also said that if the cricketer’s only look for money not thinks for the sake of cricket then Bangladesh cricket and the players will invite trouble in the future.   Nazmul Hasan admitted that he had to deal with many issues simultaneously and that was the main reason for the recent unrest in the cricket arena. He went on to criticise the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (Cwab) for leading the cricketers astray at a critical time. “When I had a press conference regarding the ACSU report a few days back, the same day I saw that Cwab issue an ultimatum to increase the salary, which was very disappointing for me. They should have not said that thing at that particular time, when we are going through such shock,” asserted Nazmul.   The BCB boss also said that the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) will look after all issues regarding DPL, but the BCB is there to help at anytime. However, the final decision in such matters would lie with the CCDM.
