Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited confirmed their first ever Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League title Tuesday when they beat Abahani Limited by four wickets at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Sheikh Jamal now have 24 points from 14 games and assured top spot with a game to go as second placed Legends of Rupganj, who clinched a comprehensive 196-run win against Gazi Group Cricketers on the same day, have 20 points from the same number of matches.
In another match, Prime Bank Cricket Club's Anamul Haque became the first player to score over 1,000 runs in a single edition of DPL and his third century of the season helped his side beat Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club by 10 wickets.
Sheikh Jamal v Abahani
Nurul Hasan might have had some torrid times in the international arena but he has proven himself as the best finisher and match winner in domestic circuit as he guided his side to yet another win from a very delicate situation.
Sheikh Jamal were in all sorts of trouble as they lost half of their wickets for just 78 runs while chasing Abahani’s 229/6 but Nurul along with Parvez Rasool, Sheikh Jamal’s most impactful player in the current campaign, formed a 72-run stand to keep their hopes alive.
Rasool, the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to have represented India, got several player of the match awards this season for his all-round performances but was dismissed for 33.
Nurul however, got a good partner in Ziaur Rahman.
The duo added 82 runs off just 56 balls as player of the match Nurul was not out on a run-a-ball 81 while Ziaur was on 39 off 26 balls.
Rupganj v Gazi
Rupganj sealed yet another huge-margin victory against Gazi at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan and their latest win of 196-run, the biggest in the season, surpassed the previous biggest which they claimed against the same opponent last month when they won by 147 runs.
Chasing Rupganj’s 293/9, Gazi were bundled out for just 97 runs thanks to five-wicket haul of Gazi’s Indian recruit Chirag Jani, who returned with 5/15 bowling 7.2 overs.
Earlier in the day, Rupganj’s Sabbir Rahman made 90 off 83 and ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan played a swashbuckling 53-run innings off just 26 balls to put up a big score on the board for their side after winning the toss.
Prime v Tigers
On the day Rupganj registered the biggest margin of victory in terms of runs, in adjacent field of BKSP-4, Prime clinched the first 10-wicket victory of the tournament thanks to centuries from Anamul Haque and Tamim Iqbal.
Anamul, who now has 1,042 runs from 10 matches with an average of 80.15, remained not out on 112 off 84 balls while Tamim was on 109 off 81 as their side chased down Tigers' 229 in just 26.4 overs.
