There’s something special about Bengali food. For Bangladeshis, there’s no forgetting the taste of their favorite home-cooked meals, or the traditions associated with preparing each dish. In essence, the dishes and delicacies that define our culture are labor of love. Even the simplest and quickest of dishes are steeped in history. Menus nationwide reflect the diversity of Bengali cuisine – different areas with their different roots and dialects have a way of adding their own flavor to the food we hold so dear to our hearts.

As the capital, Dhaka is a melting pot. Each and every day, this city brings people together around tables in homes, restaurants, and eateries. Simply put, Dhaka’s dynamic nature has enchanted food lovers through the centuries.  Dhaka’s various traditional food offerings attract the attention of local food lovers, as well as foreigners. With the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket frenzy in full swing across the country popular food delivery platform foodpanda has come up with a unique and tasty arrangement for the players of Minister Dhaka!

In this off-field event, the star players of Minister Dhaka shared their views on the popular Dhakai dishes and umpired, whether it is a straight boundary or a high-flying sixer!

Biryani Boom Boom

Typically, the first item that comes to mind when talking about Dhakaiya foods is mouthwatering biryani. Be it a wedding or a simple ceremony at home – Kachchi biryani always tops the list for locals and foreigners alike. During the taste test, Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell answered everyone’s questions by stuffing a spoonful of biryani in his mouth! All-rounder Isuru Udana, and Afghan wicketkeeper Mohammad Shehzad gave Kachchi biryani the maximum mark without a second thought!

Faluda Sixer

Whether it’s enjoyed with friends on a hot afternoon, or as a dessert after a full-course meal – Faluda is everyone’s favorite dessert.  foodpanda’s taste testing extravaganza introduced faulda to Andre and Shehzad.  Cricketer Isuru Udana shared that he had enjoyed faluda previously in Sri Lanka.  According to Andre and Tamim, Faluda also cleared the boundary with ease.

Fuchka on Free-Hit

It will be difficult to find a Bangladeshi who does not like fuchka. Afghan powerhouse Mohammad Shehzad also fell in love with the “jhal jhal” fuchka at first bite. In fact, fuchka came in second place on his list of favorites, right after biryani. Isuru Udana was also caught licking his fingers to get every last bit of fuchka!

Shingara with the “shing”

The three “shings” (horns) of shingaras managed to fascinate local Bangladeshi cricketers Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad. For the tigers, it was over-boundary, but Andre Russell and Mohammad Shehzad were not super impressed after tasting the other delicacies.

Tail-ender Bakarkhani

Dhakai, especially Old Dhakai foodies, have a soft-corner for crispy and delicate Bakarkhani.  That being said, compared to other foods, Bakarkhani fell a little behind in the ratings given by the Dhaka Ministers. Mohammad Shehzad said it scored sixes, for Tiger Tamim Iqbal and West Indian Russell, Bakarkhani unfortunately could not make it to the top.

All in all, the Ministers were so impressed by the taste of Dhakai food that at the end of the trials, Mohammad Shehzad said, “Let’s do this every day!”
