Defending champions Bangladesh eased into the U-19 World Cup quarter-finals after outclassing their United Arab Emirates counterparts by nine wickets in accordance with the Duckworth-Lewis method Saturday.
Needing to win their third and last Group A match in Basseterre, the young Tigers upon winning the toss first bundled the Emiratis out for 148 in 48.1 overs.
Ripon Mondol took three wickets, while Ashiqur Zaman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged two each for the reigning champions.
In reply, the youngsters in red and green were off to a solid start as openers Mahfijul Islam (64 not out) and Iftekhar Hossain (37) put on 86 before the latter was dismissed in the second ball of the 22nd over.
Rain then halted play briefly before play resumed with Bangladesh set a revised target of 107 in 35 overs.
The holders wasted little time in reaching their revised target, taking 3.3 more overs to coast to the destination without any loss of wickets.
The junior Tigers finished as Group A runners-up with four points from three matches, behind leaders England who have maximum six points.
Bangladesh's loss to England means the former will have to face neighbors and rivals India in the quarters this Saturday in Antigua and Barbuda.
Rakibul Hasan and Co have faced the Indians quite a few times in the recent past; the former famously coming out on top in the 2020 U-19 World Cup final in South Africa.
Creditably, Bangladesh also claimed the honors in the triangular series in India against India U-19 A and India U-19 B.
India exacted some sort of revenge over Bangladesh by winning the 2021 U-19 Asia Cup semi-final at Sharjah.
