Bangladesh national team’s out-of-favor cricketer Sabbir Rahman is in hot water yet again as he is facing the allegation of racial abuse and stone pelting to Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited left-arm spinner Elias Sunny.
Sabbir is playing for Legends of Rupganj in the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League Twenty20.
Sheikh Jamal officially filed a complaint to Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis over the incident Wednesday.
CCDM member secretary Ali Hossain confirmed that they received a letter from Sheikh Jamal regarding the matter and said, "We have received a letter and will also look at the match referee's report. We will investigate and take a decision."
Sheikh Jamal were playing at BKSP 3 ground against Old DOHS Wednesday morning.
Sabbir’s team Rupganj were scheduled to play against Partex Sporting Club at the adjacent BKSP 4 ground.
According to the complaint filed by Sheikh Jamal, while crossing the BKSP 3 ground, Sabbir from the outside racially abused Sheikh Jamal player Elias Sunny, who was fielding at the boundary line at that moment.
The complaint stated, Sabbir shouted "Kailla" (derogatory word describing people of black skin in Bengali) to Sunny several times and also pelted stones incessantly at the same time from outside the ground.
However, Sabbir denied all of these accusations against him to the media.
Sabbir has been out of the national team since his poor run of form during the middle of 2019.
In this year’s DPL T20, he has scored only 151 runs in 10 games with an average of 18.87 and strike rate of 98.69 with the highest score of 41.
Controversy is not new in Sabbir’s career as he had been fined or warned several times.
Sabbir was even banned for six months from domestic cricket and fined Tk20 lakhs for beating a spectator during the late stage of 2017, and axed from the BCB central contract as a consequence of the incident.
During September 2018, Sabbir was also banned for six months again from international cricket, this time for abusing a fan on social media.
Sabbir has played 11 Tests, 66 ODIs and 44 T20s for Bangladesh so far.
