Mosaddek told the media in the post-day press conference after the end of day four at P Sara Oval in Colombo on Saturday, “If we get two wickets early, then we have a very good chance to win. They have not scored much yet, it’s like 135-140 (139-run lead). We will try to keep them within 160. If we can get them all out for 160, it won’t be very difficult for us to win,”.
The Tigers' main priority now will be to get those two remaining wickets as the wicket might get difficult to bat on as time goes on.
“I won’t say the wicket has become very difficult for batting. And neither will I say it is very good. The biggest advantage for us is that those who are batting now are not genuine batsmen. So if we can bowl in the right areas, we can get them all out quickly,” said the debutant.
Mosaddek praised the efforts of Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib al Hasan, who provided Bangladesh crucial breakthroughs.
“I think Mustafizur is one of the best fast bowlers in the world now and I think Shakib bhai has been [one of the] best for quite some time now. They know their roles and responsibilities within the team very well and tried to fulfil that. They knew what to do at that time. They used that and we were successful from that position,” he said.
“We were looking for the batsmen to make mistakes. No one thought that we would get wickets every ball, the thinking was that if we keep bowling in the right areas, the batsman will make a mistake,” he added.
The right-hander played a valiant 75-run knock in the first innings but he said team success is way more important to him than individual milestones.
“Actually, what I did is not a big deal. If we can win the match, I will feel good that my contribution has helped the team,” he said.
There was an incident in the last ball of the day as Bangladesh appealed strongly for a catch of Suranga Lakmal off Mosaddesk’s bowling. After being denied by on-field umpire Aleem Dar, the Tigers took the review and lost it.
“We were confident and took the review. He (Aleem) nodded his head affirmatively first. And then we thought it was out. At the time, we thought that there was a chance of getting the decision in our favour,” said Mosaddek.
