Bangladesh Cricket Board chief selector Minhajul Abedin informed that Sabbir Rahman’s inclusion into the One Day International squad for the New Zealand series has been due to a strong recommendation from ODI captain Mahsrafe bin Mortaza.
Sabbir was banned for six months at the international level since September and his ban was supposed to end on February 28. But according to the chief selector, Sabbir’s ban was reduced to five months and it will be ended on January 31 and due to captain Mashrafe’s recommendation, Sabbir has been picked.

Batsman #Sabbir Rahman and pacer #Taskin Ahmed is back in the national-fold as #Bangladesh have announced a 15-member #ODI squad for the forthcoming series in #NewZealand.
“One thing I need to clear, Sabbir’s inclusion to the ODI team is basically due to the captain’s recommendation. He strongly recommended Sabbir to us and we have agreed on this matter. The team management wants a batsman who can score plenty of runs at the death overs against fast bowlers. The captain is hopeful about his return to form and we are also hopeful. That’s why we have chosen him for the New Zealand ODI series, considering World Cup ahead. When captain and team management strongly want a particular player, then we have to agree on that,” Mihajul informed at the press conference in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.
Sabbir has scored 141 runs in his seven innings during this season’s BPL with an average of 20.14 and strike rate of 117.50.
