India defeated Sri Lanka by 144 runs to become the undefeated U-19 Asia Cup champion in Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka Sunday. This is the sixth U-19 Asia Cup title for India.

Chasing a challenging target of 305, Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 160 in 38.4 overs. Opener Nishan Madushka scored 49 while Navod Paranavithana made 48 for the Lankans.

Left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi took six wickets for India, conceding just 38 runs in his quota of 10 overs.

Earlier, India captain Simran Singh elected to bat first. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Anuj Rawat made a commanding start and repaid the faith of their captain as they added 121 in 25 overs.

Left-arm spinner Dulith Wellalage broke the partnership in the first ball of the 26th over by taking the wicket of Rawat, who scored 57 off 79 balls with four fours and three sixes. Jaiswal made 85 off 113 deliveries with eight boundaries and one sixer.

With such a solid platform, Indian middle-order batsmen thrived as they exhibited some whirlwind stroke-making to take the score past the 300-run mark in their stipulated 50 overs for the loss of just three wickets.

Simran scored an unbeaten half-century to lead the late charge. He made 65 off just 35 balls, including three fours and four over-boundaries.

Ayush Badoni also blasted a quickfire fifty as the right-hander scored 52 off just 28 balls with two fours and five sixes. Four of his five sixes came off consecutive balls in the 46th over against Shashika Dulshan.
