Bangladesh’s middle-order batsman Mahmudullah known for his finishing abilities with the bat did just that in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) to take his side St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to the play-offs against the Jamaica Tallawahs with a seven-wicket win via the DLS method at Basseterre on Sunday.

Batting first Jamaica scored a formidable 206 runs in their allotted 20 overs where Rovman Powell powered his way to a 40-ball 84 with 11 boundaries and four sixes.

In the chase, Patriots were cruising at 65 for 1 after 6.3 overs before rain interrupted play for a 40-minute delay. When play resumed, the target was 118 from 11 overs, meaning 53 runs would be required from 27 balls.

After Gayle’s departure for 40 runs off 24 balls with the score at 71-2 after 7 overs, it was up to Mahmudullah to finish things off. And he did so in aplomb scoring 28 runs from just 11 deliveries which included two fours and two sixes to guide his team home with five balls to spare.
