Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh in D/L method to reach U-19 Asia Cup final

Bangladesh youngsters ended their Asian Cricket Council Asia Cup 2016 campaign as Saif Hasan and his troop were beaten by the host Sri Lanka Under-19 by 26 runs (D/L method) in the semi-final at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The Lankan youths will face the defending champion India under-19 team in the final of the tournament on Friday. Chasing 194 runs Sri Lanka were well in course before rain interrupted to stop the chase on 106 for two in 27.1 overs. With the weather getting now better, the match officials decided to the end the game declaring Sri Lanka the winner as per the D/L method in the day night affair. Sri Lanka opener Vishva Chaturanga topped the innings with 68 off 7 with seven boundaries and a six. Vishva made a confident start to the chase with 74 runs in the opening stand where Reven Kelly departed after scoring 23. Earlier, lack of big partnership caused damage for the young Tigers. The side elected to bat first and but only to see themselves bundled out on a small total of 194 in 48.3 overs. Middle order Rayan Rafsan Rahman was the highest scorer with 38 off 58 balls with three fours while Afif Hossain scored 36 and skipper Saif added 26 as Bangladesh were unable to post a challenging total in the crucial game. Left arm spinners Praveen Jayawickrama picked up four wickets and gave away just 25 runs from his ten overs while Hareen Weerasingha took three wickets for the bowling side. Earlier in the tournament Bangladesh champion despite being beaten by Pakistan under-19 side to reach the semi-final of the ongoing Under-19 Asia Cup.
