Bangladesh achieved its highest ever gold medals in the 35-year history of South Asian Games after the men's cricket team clinched the 19th gold beating Sri Lanka in the final of the 13th SAG in Kathmandu on Monday.
Kathmandu and Pokhara has exceeded Dhaka where Bangladesh held their previous record during the 2010 Games when it won a total 97 medals including 18 golds, 23 silvers and 56 bronzes to finish third in the eight-nation medal tally.
Men's cricket team also won gold in 2010 along with men's football, karate (4), shooting (3), taekwondo, wushu, boxing, gold (2) and weightlifting (1).
This time Bangladesh won 10 golds from archery, 3 from karate, 2 from weightlifting and 1 each from men's and women's cricket, taekwondo and fencing. By Sunday, they had won 31 silver and 74 bronze medals.
The number of sports has increased from 23 to 26 this time while the number of participants also decreased with Afghanistan shifting to central Asian zone.
India, who always top the medal tally and skipped five sport in the ongoing edition, are leading the medal tally with 138 golds followed by Nepal (47 golds), Sri Lanka (36) and Pakistan (30).
