The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, organised an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet with Laisa Ahmed Lisa at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, Dhaka on August 9, 2017.
Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Citycell Channel I Music Award 2007 winner has mastered Tagore’s songs in their full flavour and has an impeccable style of singing which is widely praised by connoisseurs. Born in a family of musicians, Lisa was initiated in to music by her father, Late Dr Mafiz Uddin Ahmed. Subsequently, she received training in Rabindra Sangeet from Professor Ghulam Murshid, Waheedul Haq and Sanjida Khatun. Ustad Amaresh Roy Chowdhury and Ustad Rabiul Hussain had been Lisa’s mentors in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music.
The avid Rabindra artist is also a senior teacher of Rabindra Sangeet and General Secretary at Chhayanaut. Lisa released 12 musical albums under the banner of established music companies like HMV Saregama and Bengal Foundation. She has received several awards like Junior Championship in 1981 and 1982 and Senior championship in 1983 in National Competitions organised by Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad, Citycell Channel I Music Award 2007 for being the Best Singer of Rabindra Sangeet, among others. Garnered with plaudits beyond borders, Lisa performed in counties like, India, USA, UK, Germany and Australia.
Apart from her unparalled singing talents, Laisa Ahmed Lisa also has a PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Dhaka. She is working as professor and chairman, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Jagannath University, Dhaka.
Paying tribute to the great Rabindranath Tagore, IGCC previously organised an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet “Borshar Gaane Rabindranath” with Swati Sarker, Avik Deb and Sumaya Imam at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Shahbagh, on August 5.
