Harry Styles has performed an unreleased song written in memory of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne during a concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Titled “What Is Enough”, the track was performed on the second anniversary of Payne’s death. The singer died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Addressing the audience during his “Together, Together” tour residency in New York, Styles reflected on the loss of his friend and former colleague.
“There are so many people in my life, friends and people that I've worked with that I wouldn't have been able to do this without,” Styles said. “And two years ago today, I lost one of those friends.”
Before performing the acoustic track, the singer urged fans to support one another through grief and difficult times.
“I'm sure a lot of you have been through similar things,” he added. “Really, it's just about looking after each other.”
Styles and Payne rose to global fame alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik as members of One Direction. The group was formed on The X Factor in 2010 and became one of the most successful boy bands of its generation.
Following the group’s hiatus in 2016, Styles established a successful solo career, earning multiple Grammy Awards. His album Harry’s House won Album of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards.
The unreleased song’s debut offered a personal moment of remembrance for Payne, bringing the singer’s legacy into focus during Styles’ New York performance.
