The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, traditionally held in February to commemorate the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, will take place from January 7 to February 6 next year.

A notice signed by Bangla Academy Director General Mohammad Azam announced the dates on October 18.

The decision was finalised at a views-exchange meeting with representatives of publishers on October 13 at the Shaheed Munier Chowdhury Conference Room of Bangla Academy. According to the notice, the schedule was approved unanimously by the publishers’ representatives.

The meeting was chaired by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury. Prime Minister’s Adviser on Cultural Affairs Dr Zahed Ur Rahman and Cultural Affairs Secretary Yasmin Begum also attended.

The annual book fair honours those who sacrificed their lives during the 1952 Language Movement and celebrates Bengali language, literature and culture. It also serves as a major gathering for authors, publishers, readers and literary enthusiasts from across the country.

The 2027 edition will begin earlier than the traditional February schedule, concluding on February 6
