Anusheh Anadil says she is gradually losing her hearing

The acclaimed folk-fusion singer says tinnitus has made loud sounds painful, forcing her to step away from performing

Singer Anusheh Anadil has revealed that a worsening hearing condition is the reason she quietly stepped away from music at the height of her career.

Known for her renditions of songs such as “Tomar Ghore” and “Ghate Lagiya Dinga”, Anusheh had long been absent from concerts, leaving fans wondering why she no longer performed.

Addressing the speculation, the singer said she has been gradually losing her hearing because of tinnitus, a condition that has made performing increasingly difficult.

"I just wanted to be honest about why I no longer sing," she said.

"I am slowly losing my ability to hear. I have something called tinnitus. And the noise in my ear is so loud that I can no longer stand loud noises. It literally hurts my ears."

Anusheh said doctors advised her to use hearing aids, but she felt they worsened her condition.

"The doctors asked me to wear hearing aids, but that dependency is making me hear even less and my tinnitus worse. So I stopped wearing them," she explained.

She added that the condition has also reshaped her lifestyle, leading her to seek a quieter environment away from the city.
