A documentary film titled “Basanti: a struggle for spring” was premiered at the Liberation War Museum Auditorium yesterday.
Directed by Sandip Kumar Mistry, the documentary features the life and work of educationist and writer Basanti Guhathakurta. The premiere was organized to mark the 102nd birth anniversary Basanti Guhathakurta.
The ten-minute-long documentary has been produced by Megna Guhathakurta and coordinated by Tanvir Mokammel.

At the premiere, Basanti Guhathakurta’s daughter Megna Guhathakurta said: “My mother has struggled all her life. She worked for women’s education and social reform. After the death of my father, the struggle was very difficult. As her daughter I am trying to convey her struggle and works to the next generation.”
Director Sandip Kumar Mistry said it is inspiring to get the insights of the contribution of Basanti Guhathakurta and her husband Jyotirmoy Guhathakurta to the country and its people.
“I have been able to understand these issues more while making this documentary. Various issues, including Basanti Guhathakurta’s life philosophy and struggle, have been brought up in this documentary," he added.
The documentary highlights how Basanti Guhathakurta survived along with her daughter Meghna after her husband Jyotirmoy Guhathakurta was murdered by the Pakistani forces during the Liberation War.
Basanti Guhathakurta was also involved with various state-building activities following the independence of Bangladesh. The documentary goes on to show us different chapters of her struggle and her struggle for the spring (Basanta).
