“A Tale of Two Sisters” is based on the life of two sisters, Rahela and Saleha, who lost everything in the liberation war. The movie starring Jaya Ahsan was released in three multiplexes and six theaters in the country on Friday (December 27).
The movie, directed by Akram Khan, is based on the story of fiction writer Hasan Azizul Haque's “Bedhobader Kotha”.
This film, set in the context of the Liberation War, is Jaya's second film to be released in the country's theatres this year. She plays the role of Rahela in it.
The film also stars Fariha Shams Sheuti, Labonno Chowdhury, Rawnak Hasan, Dibya Joyti, Shommo Jyoti and Iresh Zaker.
Regarding the film, Jaya Ahsan said, "We saw how the brave mothers lived their lives. We will also see in this film how they were oppressed even after the war. The film talks about their stories."
The actress also said, "The last week of December, including Christmas, is a holiday mood. ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’ is being released during this time. I hope the audience will come to see the film and like it."
Director Akram Khan said, "The story of a village has been poetically brought out here. It also shows how the two sisters, who lost everything in the war, see the country after the war, and think about the state and society.
“A Tale of Two Sisters” has been to various festivals around the world. It has also received several awards. Among them, the Asian Competition Award at the Bangalore International Film Festival is one of them.
In addition, the film was nominated for the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). It received the Best Feature Film Award at the 14th Busan Peace Film Festival in South Korea. It was also screened at the London Bengali Film Festival. The film was selected in the Big Screen category at the Rotterdam International Film Festival.
