‘Jatrapala’, one of the branches of traditional folk culture of contemporary Bengal, has always been considered as the culture of the masses. ‘Jatrapala’ works as a mirror of real development in the hearts of people.
Form November 1- 7, everyday 6pm-9pm, Jatra troupes from across the country will participate at the festival at BSA.
The inaugural function of Jatra Utshob-2024 will be held on Friday November 1 at 6 pm. Israfill Mazumdar, who participated in the mass uprising of students in 1969, will be present as the chief guest. Artiste Anima Dey will be the special guest. Faiz Zahir, director of drama and film department, will deliver the welcome speech. The program will be presided over by the director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, theater director and teacher Dr Syed Jamil Ahmed.
Day 1 November 1, Friday, Surubhi Opera will play "Nihoto Golap" by Agontuk and directed by Kabir Khan.
Day 2, November 2, Saturday, New Shamim Natya Sangstha will perfrom "Anarkali", written by Prasad Krishna Bhattacharya and directed by Shamim Khandakar.
Day 3, November 3, Bongo Bani Opera will perform "Meghe Dhaka Tara" written by Ranjan Debnath and directed by Manas Kumar.
Day 4, November 4, Nor-Narayan Opera will perform "Lalon Fakir", written by Devendranath and directed by Brojen Kumar Biswas
Day 5, November 5, Bondhu Opera will perform "Apon Dulaal", written by Shamsul Haque and directed by Monir Hossain
Day 6, November 6, Sharmin Opera will perform "Phoolan Devi", written by Purnendu Roy and directed by Sheikh Rafiqul.
Day 7, November 7, Jatrabandhu Opera will perform "Nawab Siraj-ud-Doula", written by Sri Sachin Nath Sen and directed by Abul Hashem.
