Actor Sohel Rana forms new political party

The 51-member committee of the new party will be announced by the end of this month or in the first week of November.

Dhallywood actor, freedom fighter and politician Masud Parvez aka Sohel Rana has formed a new political organization called “Bangladesh Justice Party”.

After a meeting held at a hotel in Dhaka on Thursday (October 3) evening, the formation of the team was announced under the chairmanship of the veteran actor.

The 51-member committee of the new party will be announced by the end of this month or in the first week of November. The dove symbol of peace has been declared as the official symbol of the party.

Popular actor Sohail Rana, famous for the "Golden Age" of Dhallywood, has been involved in politics for a long time. During his student life, he was the president of the college Chhatra League while studying at Anandmohan College, Mymensingh.

In 1965 he was elected General Secretary of Greater Mymensingh Chhatra League, in 1966 Assistant General Secretary of East Pakistan Chhatra League and in 1968 as a member of the Executive Committee of the entire East Pakistan Chhatra League.

After the independence of the country in 1972 while studying in Dhaka University, Sohel Rana was elected VP of Iqbal Hall. In 2009, he joined the Jatiya Party as a member of the Presidium of the Jatiya Party and was appointed as an election advisor to the Chairman of the Jatiya Party and former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

Veteran and acclaimed silver screen actor Sohail Rana entered the country's film industry in 1971 soon after independence by establishing Parvez Films as a producer. Under the banner of this production company, late filmmaker Chashi Nazrul Islam directed, Bangladesh's first full-length film "Ora Egaro Jon" based on the Liberation War in 1972.

His career as an actor and director began in 1973 with the film "Masud Rana" based on the story of the famous spy thriller series "Masud Rana" by the late novelist Qazi Anwar Hussain.

Sohel Rana won the National Film Award thrice in his career along with Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding contribution to films as an actor.
