With the Awami League government being overthrown, demand for the resignation of the current committee of the Actors' Equity was inevitable. More than half a hundred actors under a banner named “Reformist Actors” have been constantly demanding for the reform of the union and the abolition of the current committee.
Finally, the union formed a peaceful settlement against that demand. On September 18, the Union's current committee convened a general meeting at a convention center in the capital.
An interim reform committee has been formed to prevent the current committee from taking any decision on the reform demands raised by the members. Tariq Anam Khan is in charge as the head of this new committee for a period of four months.
This information has been confirmed by the members of the association.
It has been reported that the President of Actors Equity and the General Secretary, who were in support of the Awami League government, are not resigning even though the reformist actors have demanded their resignation.
Regarding this, the president Ahsan Habib Nasim said, “After listening to everyone’s concerns, a new committee called 'Interim Reforms Committee' has been formed with the honorable Tariq Anam Khan as its head. He will be on the committee with artists for the next four months and will work on reforms. After that, after a certain time, the election will be announced.”
He also mentioned that none of the 21-member committee has resigned, and they will conduct their office activities for these four months. However, they cannot take any important decisions. Only the committee chief Tariq Anam Khan has the authority to do that.
Tariq Anam Khan serves at the interim reform committee from Thursday, September 19. There will be four more people in the committee with him. Their names have not yet been announced yet.
