Kamar Ahmad Simon's 'Shikolbaha' had its world premiere at the Shanghai FIlm Art Center on June 16. ‘Shikolbaha’ has been nominated in the Main Competition for the Golden Goblet award at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) this year. Director Kamar Ahmad Simon, producer Sara Afreen, and artist Fauzia Karim Anu are currently at Shanghai receiving festival authorities' invitation.
Actress Anu also received a bouquet of flowers on Eid day, congratulating her. Regardding this she said, "The world premiere of the first movie of my life, that too in the main competition in Shanghai - packed with audiences on the chaand raat. The night has already passed in a swirl, then this rose bouquet on the morning of Eid! I don’t know what to say!"
After the world premier director Kamar Ahmad Simon, producer Sara Afreen, and artist Fauzia Karim Anu attended a Q&A session with the audience.
More than 3,700 films from 105 countries were submitted for screening in Shanghai this year. Among these, besides 'Shikolbaha' from Bangladesh, only 13 more films from Spain, Argentina, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Iran have been selected for the main competition. Prior to the premiere, Kamar, Sara, and Anu had also walked the red carpet at China's oldest cinema event as key participants last saturday.
'Shikolbaha' is a joint production between Studio Beginning from Bangladesh and Weydemann Bros. a German production company. 'Shikolbaha' also received the Göteborg Film Festival Script Grant and the National Film Grant of Bangladesh.
