The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition “Needle, Thread and a Splash of Water” by Rafid Al Zahur and Piran Bangladesh will be held on Friday, August 11 at 5.30 pm at Alliance Française de Dhaka’s La Galerie.
The fashion and photography exhibition will continue everyday from 3 pm to 9 pm until August 14.
Documentary Photographer Rafid Al Zahur captured the journey of Piran Bangladesh co-founder and designer Zarin Tasnim Reza as she worked with the female artisans of the Beraid slum community in a series of eight workshops.
The photo story narrates the month-long view into the lives and aspirations of the Beraid residents, shedding light on their challenges and successes amidst the changing urban landscape.
The stories of 22 female artisans weaved into 15 pieces of clothing will be celebrated by the very same community showcasing the collection through a ramp show.
This exhibition hopes to create employment opportunities for the Beraid community by displaying their craftsmanship and selling their products on various platforms. Co-founder of Bibiana Lipi Khandaker, General Secretary of National Crafts Council of Bangladesh Sk Saifur Rahman, and Make-Up artist Bapon Rahman, will attend the inaugural event as special guests.
