‘Saatao’ competing at Kazan Film Festival in Russia

The crowd-funded film 'Saatao’ (Memories of Gloomy Monsoons) has been nominated for the 19th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival to be held from September 5 to 9.

The crowd-funded film “Saatao” (Memories of Gloomy Monsoons) has been nominated for the 19th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival to be held from September 5 to 9.

“Saatao'' will be screened under the "Russia - The Islamic World" section of the festival in Kazan, the capital of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan.

The 19th Kazan International Muslim Film Festival will be held in cooperation with the President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

“The selected films focus on human relationships, familial relationships, issues of moral philosophy, human survival and communication in extreme situations”, Dr. Taimur Shaikhulin, a member of the selection committee says, "The films of the 'Russia - The Islamic World' category will embody Muslim spiritual values."

Kazan had previously selected films from Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Touquir Ahmed, Bijon Imtiaz and had juries from Bangladesh including Ahmed Muztaba Zamal and Sadia Khalid Reeti.

"Saatao " director Khandkar Suman said, "I am very happy that my first film has been nominated in such a prestigious film festival. I would like to add to this good news. 'Saatao' is going to be released on OTT platforms soon.

On November 24, 2022, the film had its world premiere at the 53rd International Film Festival of India in Panjim, Goa.
