On Sunday, October 24, a film accelerator program titled 'Workshop Encouraging Film and Web Content on Social Issues' started with 20 young filmmakers at Chuti Resort Purbachal.
Bijon Imtiaz and Arifur Rahman, directors and executive producers of the multi-award winning Matir Prajar Deshe, were both instructors at the virtual workshop.
After a three-day virtual training, participants joined a two-day residential workshop. On the first day of this program, they developed their film project through different exercises moderated by Shahla Islam Rodoshee who is the workshop designer.
The first day's workshop ended with a session by Chorki. Chief Operating Officer & Filmmaker Redwan Rony, Content Officer Adar Rahman talked about the potential of OTT platforms in Bangladesh. They also shared Chorki’s upcoming content plan.
Sonnet, one of the young filmmakers, said that such workshops help immensely in networking by creating opportunities to build up suitable teams for future productions.
Tabassum Islam Tamanna, another young filmmaker, said that from this workshop she came to learn about others creators’ thoughts process which will help to increase creativity.
Earlier, the US Department of State’s program Alumni Thematic International Exchange Seminars (Alumni TIES) was held in Kazakhstan in November 2019. Three Bangladeshis; Angur Nahar Monty, Elita Karim and Shahla Islam Rodoshee took part with 32 delegates from around the world. This film accelerator program was one of the winning projects that secured funding from AlumniTIES Small Grant Competition.
This workshop is organized by Dream on and supported by The US Department of State, World Learning, EMK Center and Final Draft. Participants receive one year of software from the Final Draft as a gift.
Shahla Islam Rodoshee, project lead of the workshop on behalf of Bangladesh, said the young filmmakers carry lots of potential that can change the content quality of Bangladesh only if they receive right support and collaboration opportunities.
The workshop will end on Monday, October 25, 2021 , with a film pitching session where the leaders of the country's top OTT platforms will be present.
