Popular music artist Kamruddin Absar passes away

Kamruddin Absar, a noted popular music artist and organizer of Bangladesh's progressive cultural movement, has passed away.

He breathed his last at a hospital in Dhaka while undergoing treatment.

Family sources said he had been suffering from various health complications for a long time. Following a deterioration in his condition, he was admitted to BIHS Hospital in the capital, where he died.

Absar was associated with the Bangladesh Writers' Camp for many years and played an active role in the Popular Culture Front. He also had a long association with the popular music group "Srijan".

In addition to performing popular music, he wrote and composed numerous songs and also authored a number of rhymes and poems.

Known for his close involvement with left-leaning cultural movements, Absar dedicated his life to advancing cultural activism in support of workers, farmers and other marginalized communities. Colleagues remember him as a committed, selfless, humble and courageous cultural activist.

Various cultural and political organizations have expressed deep sorrow at his death and conveyed condolences to his family.
