Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's much talked about film “Shonibar Bikel” or "Saturday Afternoon" is set to be released across the United States (US) and Canada on March 10.
The film would be released through India's Reliance Entertainment and the global distribution rights of the film have been acquired by Singapore's Continental Entertainment Pte Limited (CEPL).
The film has been stuck on the Bangladesh Film Censor Board for four years. However, the movie got clearance for release last month.
As no date has been set for the release in Bangladesh, the film will premiere in the US and Canada first. The film is loosely based on the 2016 Holey Artisan attack.
In this regard, Mostafa Sarwar Farooqi said: "I wanted the film to be released in Bangladesh first. But anyway, the journey will start from North America. I invite North American audiences to come and experience the film in theatres”.
CEPL CEO (Southeast Asia) Sreyashii Sengupta said: "We are happy to release Farooqi's film ‘Saturday afternoon' after waiting for four years”.
Reliance Entertainment Head of Foreign Trade Affairs Dhruv Sinha said: “The movie has given us the opportunity to work with a filmmaker of an independent mindset. It has also opened the door to the world for Bangladeshi films. We assure you that Reliance Entertainment will bring such great work to world visitors in the future. ”
"I'm sure people here will like the movie," said Sumit Chada, associate VP of Reliance Entertainment Studios US.
Nusrat Imroz Tisha, Mamunur Rashid, Eresh Zakir, Palestine Yad Hurani, India's Parambrat Chatterjee have played various roles on Saturday afternoon. The film is produced by Jazz Multimedia and Photo of Bangladesh and Tandem Production in Germany.
