On Friday, 27 January 2023, La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka inaugurated the solo exhibition by Hasura Akther Rumky that comes with the title ‘Self & Others.' The opening ceremony of the exhibition had the presence of the eminent artist Shahabuddin Ahmed and actress Shomi Kaiser.
Rumky's paintings, in pastel acrylic, charcoal etc, portrayed people as the main subject. She did not paint anything ordinary or familiar, instead she chose to draw something that belongs to the invisible world. Her paintings also depicted illusions and human connections. Her works based on ‘Rickshaw and Rickshaw Puller' showed the conflicts between light and dark. The paintings will not bother the viewers with sadness, instead they will develop the idea that life must go on. Through her works, Rumky portrayed the rickshaw pullers with intense compassion.
The artist did her BFA and MFA from the Department of Oriental Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka. Rumky has participated in countless art exhibitions, workshops, projects etc organized at both home and abroad. She has also bagged several awards including Grand Award, ‘Bangabandhu International Art Exhibition', KAHAL Art Gallery, Japan in 2021, Honorable Mention Award, at the 6th Oriental Painting Exhibition organized by OPSG in 2016.
The exhibition will be open to all till 1 February, 2023 every Monday to Saturday from 3 pm to 9 pm.
