A seven-day-long research-based art exhibition named "River Delta" started at Alliance Française de Dhaka on January 6.

In the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition present were, Mohammad Azaz, Chair, River and Delta Research Center; Dr. Mujibur Rahman Howladar, former chairperson, Bangladesh National River Protection Commission; and M. François Grosjean, Director, Alliance Française de Dhaka. Juel A Rob is the curator of the event.

This exhibition is the first phase of an ongoing five-year study on rivers of Bangladesh. Since Bangladesh is a riverine country, most parts of our food chain, trade, communication, and livelihood are river centric. Many communities are directly connected to rivers. The ebb and flow of these rivers involve the stories of many communities including fishermen, washermen, salt cultivators, sailors, and shrimpers.

After the passage of more than fifty years, Bangladesh has started to take precautions regarding the proper maintenance of water resources and their beneficial use.

“River Delta” features artworks of the artists Apu Raj Bongshi, Mohosin Kabir, Shimul Datta, Najmun Nahar Keya, Promotesh Das Pulak and Mohammad Hasanur Rahman. In the week-long exhibition, the artworks will be on display in a multidisciplinary medium including drawings, photographic impressions, installation art, kinetic sculpture, soft sculpture, two and three-dimensional sculpture, and cyanotype archival prints.

The exhibition will run at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka till January 13.
