‘Nakshi Kanthar Jomin’ nominated for Gandhi Medal at IFFI

Popular actresses Jaya Ahsan and Fariha Shams Sheuti will play the central roles of the two sisters in the film.

“Nakshi Kanthar Jomin,” (A tale of two sisters) a Bangladeshi government-funded film directed by Akram Khan, has been nominated for the ICFT- UNESCO Gandhi Medal in the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI). 

 

The International Film Festival of India will begin on November 20 in Goa, India. “Nakshi Kanthar Jomin” will have its world premiere at the event on November 25. 

 

The film is produced by TM films and based on the popular novel, “Bidhobader Kotha” (The widow's tale), authored by Hasan Azizul Haq. 

 

“Nakshi Kanthar Jomin” vividly portrays the phenomena of the 1971 Liberation War. Popular actresses Jaya Ahsan and Fariha Shams Sheuti will play the central roles of the two sisters in the film. 

 

“This is the first time any Bangladeshi film has been nominated for ICFT- UNESCO Gandhi Medal,” the director of the movie, Akram Khan mentioned. “The film addresses the struggle of women in contemporary times, which is often neglected.”

 

 “This film portrays the biggest event of our country, the Liberation War of 71,” said Farzana Munny from TM Films. “We feel very proud as the film got nominated for an international film festival before its release.” 

 

Film crew along with the producers will attend the festival in Goa on November 24.
