Neon has acquired the North American rights to Ally, the debut animated feature from South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon Ho.

The studio and distributor will release the film theatrically across North America later next year, once production wraps in the first half of 2027. Bong returns to Neon after Parasite, the 2019 drama that won four Oscars, including best picture.

In development since 2019, Ally marks Bong’s first venture into 3D animation. He co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Yu, the filmmaker behind the 2023 Korean horror film Sleep.

Sarah Colvin, Neon’s senior vice president of acquisitions, negotiated the deal with WME on behalf of the filmmakers.

Bong’s previous credits include Snowpiercer, Memories of Murder, The Host, Okja, Mother and Mickey 17.
