Director Khandaker Sumon's feature debut ‘Satao' (Memories of Gloomy Monsoons) will run in theatres in Dhaka till February 2. The acclaimed film opened in January 27, but due to a lack of audience at the halls, it will not run for a second week.
The film follows Fazlul (Fazlul Haque), who finds his wife Putul (Aynun Putul) very lonely, and decides to gift her a cow. With this newfound companion, Putul starts to settle in her new place. However, Teesta River's dams create a drought. The dam's gates remain closed until they overflow in the monsoon. When they do open the gates it causes floods, bringing misery to the livelihood of everyone inhabiting the Southern region, including Fazlu and his family.
The crowd-funded film was screened at the International Film Festival of India (Goa) in the Cinema of the World section. It recently won the Fipresci award at the Dhaka International Film Festival 2023.
Popular actors Ilias Kanchan, Reaz and Nipun will attend the 1:30pm show of “Satao” on January 31 at Bashundhara City Star Cineplex.
The film is screening at Star Cineplex, Blockbuster Cinema, Shapla (Rangpur), Shugondha (Chittagong), Silver Screen Theatre (Chittagong).
The film will open in Savar's Sena Auditorium and Dinajpur's Modern Cinema Hall from February 3.
