Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiwadi is set to debut on the streaming giant after an eight-week theatre run.
Directed by prominent Indian filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and penned by Hussain Zeidi, the film hit the theatres across the country on February 25 and earned RS100 core in the box office.
The film follows a little girl who is sold to the brothel of Rashmibai and forced into prostitution. When the girl fights back, Rashmibai seeks the help of Gangubai Kathiawadi.
“Gangubai Kathiawadi aka Ganga who wanted to be an actress, eloped to Bombay with her boyfriend Ramnik years ago, who sold her to the brothel of Shelia Masi. As years went by, Gangubai bonded with Don Rahim Lala and came to be known as the mafia queen of Mumbai,” reads the IMDB synopsis.
The supporting cast includes Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Bhargava, Varun Kapoor and others. “Singham” actor Ajay Devgn also made a cameo appearance.
The film, which premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, was generally received well by both critics and audiences, with Alia Bhatt’s performance drawing praise in particular.
