The five-day Bangla film festival by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) will conclude on Saturday, February 26.
The event, titled "Amar Bhashar Chalachchitra 1428", is taking place on the TSC premises of Dhaka University from February 22 to February 26.
The highlight of the first day was Abdullah Mohammad Saad's Cannes-selected feature "Rehana Maryam Noor," which bagged a housefull show.
People from all over the capital visited the TSC premises in droves and formed long queues to buy tickets.
Due to the audience demand, "Rehana Maryam Noor" will be screened for a second time, at 12pm, on February 26.
Earlier, the film was selected for the 74th Cannes Film Festival as the first Bangladeshi and the only South Asian film in the “Un Certain Regard” section.
“Rehana Maryam Noor” was submitted to the Bangladesh Film Censor Board on September 12, 2021, and opened in local theatres on November 12, 2021.
After Cannes, the film was invited to Melbourne, Busan and London Film Festivals.
The plot revolves around a private medical college teacher, Rehana, who single-handedly wages a fight for justice on behalf of her six-year-old daughter and one of her college students.
Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) has successfully organized 19 editions of this festival since 2002 with the aim of commemorating the great martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Bangla language and promoting Bangla cinema to film enthusiasts. Due to the pandemic, the event was postponed last year.
