In response to the physical assault of Iftekharuddin Naushad, the president of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association, the organisation has decided to not exhibit any films of actor Riaz, Misha Sawdagar and producer Khorshed Alam Khosru. The leaders of the association made the announcement at a press conferece held at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday.
Iftekharuddin Naushad, who is also the owner of Modhumita Cinema Hall, said at the press conference, “Primarily, the executive committee of the association have decided not to exhibit any film featuring actor Riaz and Misha Sawdagar, and/or produced by Khorshed Alam Khosru. However, the final decision will be taken after talking to the owners of cinema halls on July 26 at the annual meeting of the association, and actions will be taken following the meeting.”
Earlier, some members of the Chalochitra Paribar, an alliance of 17 film organisations, attacked Iftekharuddin Naushad when they were participated in a demostration demanding not to give approval of the screening of two Indo-Bangla joint production films, Boss 2 and Nabab. Following the incident, Naushad alleged that Misha, Riaz and Khosru physically assaulted him during the incident. Later, Naushad tried to file a case agaist them at Ramna Thana but the police refused to record the case.
As a response to the announcement by the Exhibitors’ Association leaders, actor Riaz said, “Its okay that you won’t screen my films, but please screen local films. Exhibit those films by which the local film industry will gain from.”
“I won’t mind if it works for the best interests of the country,” the actor added.
The leaders of the association including Sudipta Kumar Das, Mia Alauddin, Delowar Hossain Ujjal, Kazi Soyeb Rashid, Almgir Shikder and Liton Mrida were present at the press conferece.
