Katy Perry criticised over promotional ad

Update : 06 Jul 2017, 09:26 PM
Famous American singer and songwriter, Katy Perry has been widely criticised after telling her dog to “go chase some koalas” in an ad, made for an Australian department store chain named Myer One. The singer, who is currently promoting her Witness world tour, has launched a series of online promotions with Myer, and one of the advertisement sparked concerns over animal welfare. In the commercial, Katy is seen encouraging her dog to “go chase some koalas”, which sparked anger from a leading Aussie vet, who said she was “sickened” by the ad as she treats many koalas who have been viciously attacked by dogs. “This is just absolute ignorance from Perry and Myer, and inappropriate on so many levels,” vet and reality TV star, Claire Madden told the Courier Mail newspaper. She added, “Perry is a role model to so many young people, and this just destroys all the good work we do to try to encourage people not to let their dogs come into contact with koalas.” Myer has already pulled the ad, in response to the outcry. “We are aware of comments in relation to Katy Perry’s Witness: The Tour advertisement and a particular reference made to koalas. We are currently removing the material which references koalas,” it said in a statement. However, the number of koala is falling in it’s native country, Australia. According to the Australian Koala Foundation, there are fewer than 100,000 koalas left in the wild. Besides, a quarter of the rescued koalas are victims of dog attacks, sources confirm.
