Meher Afroz Shaon, the widow of the late author, sent an official objection letter against the movie to Bangladesh Film Censor Board on February 13. Shaon demanded a thorough diagnosis of the movie and lawful action, if links to the author’s personal life is substantiated.
The Information Ministry then asked Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) to revoke the “no objection certificate” granted to the film on February 15, as reported by Variety magazine.
However, the team of Doob is hoping to release the movie in Bangladesh very soon and let the audience know the story of the film for themselves, the director informed the media after receiving the award.
The film has been produced by Abdul Aziz and Irrfan Khan under the banner of Jaaz Multimedia and Irrfan Khan Films. Doob stars Bollywood star Irrfan Khan, Kolkata’s Parno Mittra, Bangladesh’s Nusrat Imrose Tisha and Rokeya Prachy.Filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s Doob: No Bed of Roses has won the Kommersant Weekend Prize at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival. The film was screened at the October cinema hall in Moscow last Wednesday. Russian film critic Andrei Plakhov handed over the prestigious award to Farooki at the same venue on Thursday.
Doob is a joint venture between Bangladesh and India and was filmed towards the end of 2016.
Controversy regarding it has followed ever since. Rumours started making rounds about the story of the movie being centred around the life of late author Humayun Ahmed. It quickly caught on after actress Rokeya Prachy alleged in an interview that the script does look like as if it is based on the life of the legendary writer.
