The collective banner of Cholochitro Paribar - a union of fourteen film organisations held a press briefing in Bangaldesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on Thursday, regarding the artist disparity in and release of the joint venture film Boss 2.
In response to Chalachitra Oikyajot’s earlier appeal, Nasiruddin Dilu, a member of the Censor Preview Committee confirmed so on June 6 saying, “We have watched the film Boss 2 today (on June 6). There are things in it that are not in compliance with the rules of joint venture productions. They did not keep a 50 percent artist parity. There are fewer Bangladeshi artists in it. We will inform the Ministry of Information and they will take the appropriate decision.”
Abdul Aziz, who previously denied the allegations, took a bold approach to express his confidence regarding the release of the film. In a recent press conference, Aziz tagged the issue as a conspiracy of Cholochitro Parichalak Samiti and several other relevant organisations. He said, “If there’s one movie which will get released this Eid, it’ll be Boss 2. If Boss 2 fails to be released, then no other movie will be released this Eid because they will also have to face questions.”
In response to Aziz’s comments, Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, convenor of Cholochitro Paribar and president of Parichalak Samiti said, “It is clearly stated in the article 6 of the joint venture regulations that there needs to be parity in terms of artist, crew and location in a joint venture film. But Boss 2 did not obey the rules, which is why it shouldn’t be released. The producer of the film is trying to release the film by creating an anomaly and following irregular means. We’ll shortly talk with the information minister regarding the matter.”
“You can’t hand our films to India by infringing the regularities of this stature. Nobody has the right to sell the rights of this country, created with blood,” said legendary actor Faruk, pointing to the kingpin of Jaaz Multimedia.
Actor Reaz, who is also the vice-president of Cholochitro Shilpi Samiti said, “We’ve been informed by several sources that the road to the release of the film is being cleared by the influence of powerful people behind the film. If this happens, the ministry which is releasing this film by infringing the law will have to take the responsibility for all and any kind of anomalies, that may take place in theatres or other places in this regard.”
Secretary general of Parichalak Samiti, Badiul Alam Khokon, president of Shilpi Samiti, Misha Sowdagar, general secretary Jayed Khan, leading directors Mantazur Rahman Akbar, Shah Alam Kiron and Shahin Sumon Apurbo Rana were also present in the press briefing among others.
Directed by Baba Yadav, the film is a sequel to his 2013 film, Boss: Born to Rule and the second installment of the Boss film series, which stars Jeet, Nusrat Faria, Subhasree Ganguly, Indraneil Sengupta and Amit Hasan. The film is being produced jointly by the Bangladeshi company Jaaz Multimedia, and India’s Jeetz Filmworks Private Limited and Walzen Media Works.
