While Bangladesh is in a mood for reform, the film industry is also seeing some long-awaited change. As artists called out for shuffling the key persons responsible for Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) that failed to deliver much of their expectations, change is already underway.
On January 30, 17 organizations related to cinema had protested with three demands, including the removal of the MD, Nuzhat Yeasmin. Finally, at least one of the demands have already been made in this short time. After the movement resulted in the fall of the government, Additional Secretary Dilip Kumar Banik has joined as the new Managing Director (MD) of BFDC.
The news was confirmed by National Film Award-winning director and BFDC PR officer Himadri Barua. The official also said that Dilip Kumar Banik joined the BFDC office on August 7.
Nuzhat Yasmin’s term as the Managing Director of BFDC was riddled with incompetency such as not being able to pay the employees’ salaries for months.
